Together We Rise Donates over 30 Bicycles to Foster Care Program
June 27, 2016: Special Kids Special Families (SKSF) would like to thank the nonprofit organization, Together We Rise for the donation of over 30 bicycles to our foster care program. With the help of Wesley Wallace, a Cummins Rocky Mountain (Henderson, Colorado) employee who fundraised and hosted the bicycle build, each bicycle was assembled and donated to families raising youth in our foster care program. “There are so many beautiful bikes! This is such a gift to our foster care program and we are ever grateful,” states Sandra Dunlap, Foster Care Program Director. According to Chelsey Crofts, Together We Rise Agency Coordinator, “Our organization tries to connect with every foster agency we can across the United States. We saw that we had not donated to Special Kids Special Families before so we went on their website and found that their mission statement matched ours. We loved seeing how much SKSF does for the children and we were ecstatic to partner with this great agency!” The SKSF foster care program has 36 foster families, with 57 foster children and are located throughout the Pikes Peak and Denver Metro areas.
Together We Rise (TWR) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization comprised of motivated young adults and former foster youth. Their vision is to improve the lives of foster children in America, who often find themselves forgotten and neglected by the public. They graciously collaborate with community partners to bring resources to foster youth and use service-learning activities to educate volunteers on issues surrounding the foster care system. TWR works with hundreds of foster agencies, social workers, CASA advocates, and other partners to bring their programs to foster youth across the nation. The foundation has allowed them to provide thousands of foster youth across the country with new bicycles, college supplies, and suitcases so that children do not have to travel from home to home with their belongings in a trash bag.
