AROUND TOWN: Superhero laughter, little heroes, fill the night
November 21, 2017: AROUND TOWN: Superhero laughter, little heroes, fill the night at Special Kids Special Families
A night of silliness and laughter raised almost $40,000 for Zach’s Place, a day-care center providing respite and care for children with physical, intellectual and emotional disabilities.
The sixth annual Special Kids Special Families Night of Comedy on Oct. 28 saluted the “Superhero Families” served by Zach’s Place, one of only two such licensed facilities in the state. Little Zach’s Place kids gave a “ROAR” performance and distributed “little hero” stuffed animals to guests.
The comedy came via “clean comic’ John Crist, a preacher’s son with Colorado Springs memories. In his bio are viral videos “Road Rage in the Church Parking Lot” and “Signs You Grew Up Christian.” Yes, he grabs the mic at mainstream comedy places such as Loonee’s and with Dave Chappelle, but he’s also the young guy who worked at Focus on the Family and for Chick-fil-A. It’s all subtle comedy fodder for him.
Volunteers who put together Night of Comedy were Regina Wiggett, Patty Brookes, Jenny Butts, executive director Linda Ellegard, Theresa Jordan, Suzie Koscove, Andrea Sedgley, Ally Shackelford and Kathleen Winder.
