Foster Care Month Highlighted at Special Kids Special Families

May 29, 2023, Colorado Springs, CO – It has been said there are no unwanted children, just unfound families.  At Special Kids Special Families (SKSF) we take that phrase to heart.  We are committed to making the Pikes Peak region the best in the nation for supporting foster children and their family providers.   Every month, more than 100 children and their caregivers are supported by services and guidance provided by Special Kids Special Families.

“We help connect children to families who can offer support and care–in many cases for the first in their lives,” said Jimmy Browder, Foster Care Placement Supervisor at SKSF.   “No two children are alike, and we help match the needs of those kids to their foster homes.”

Earlier this year President Joe Biden renewed a proclamation in declaring May National Foster Care Month.  In it he stated: “Every May, we renew our commitment to ensuring that all youth in foster care have the love, support, and resources they need to thrive.  We also celebrate the families who provide safe and loving homes for our Nation’s foster children.  We share our appreciation for the dedicated volunteers and professionals who help our Nation’s foster youth find permanent homes and connect with their biological families when appropriate — many of whom are working hard to safely reunite with their children.”

Special Kids Special Families Foster Care Services maintains high standards and requirements for foster family provider applicants, utilizing best-practice protocols and ongoing evaluations.  Program staff thoroughly vet applicant backgrounds, experience and suitability of each potential foster family seeking to join the SKSF program.

SKSF foster families are consistently considered among the very top of the industry and the staff’s due diligence in acceptance of new families has earned the program a reputation as one of the premier child placement services in the region.
