In loving memory: Celebrating National Caregivers Month

By Published On: November 15, 2023

November 15, 2023, Colorado Springs, CO – This month we celebrate National Caregivers Month which honors and recognizes the dedication and selflessness of caregivers. This month is a time to express gratitude for the invaluable contributions of those who provide care to family members, friends, or individuals facing health challenges. It serves as a reminder to acknowledge and support caregivers, who play a vital role in enhancing the well-being of their loved ones and contribute significantly to the overall health of our communities.

Giving in memory of someone is a heartfelt way to honor and celebrate the life of a loved one who has passed away. We’d like to share with you an individual that chose Special Kids Special Families as an organization that aligned with his mother’s values and the life she lived. We greatly appreciate the donations and contributions made in memory of Merita Thompson.

“My mother, Merita Thompson, and her brother, my Uncle Dan, were both adopted. Dan, who had special needs, passed away a few years ago, leaving behind a legacy of understanding and empathy in our family. My mom grew up having examples of caring for those with special needs and she carried that into her adult life. She had several children and adopted others including one with severe special needs. She had put herself through nursing school and worked for several Denver area hospitals and later a critical care and hospice nurse. She always had a distinct place in her heart for those with disabilities and special needs. She found herself a single mother raising her children and fostering and caring for many others with severe special needs. She set an example of giving back and the blessing of personal sacrifice (not choosing to travel or have fancy things), but to instead give to others. She cultivated a legacy of giving back and care. She found joy in providing loving care to others. In lieu of flowers, we would like to suggest donations to your organization. Thank you.” Robert Bahl
