December 10, 2016: The big man in red made an early stop in Colorado Springs Friday at a very special organization called Zach’s Place, a respite center for children with disabilities.  They held their annual holiday party Friday featuring Santa, food and fun – all donated from local organizations. Every child received a gift at the memorable event.

“Events like this are really important because children with disabilities who might have social anxiety or have trouble communicating often aren’t invited by classmates or other family members to parties because it’s difficult on them and it’s difficult on the families who are inviting them so things like this are really important so that they get a chance to socialize and get to have fun in the holiday spirit with their families,” said Fundraising and Events Manager, Kasi Dwyer.

Zach’s Place is one of only two respite care centers for children with disabilities in the Colorado region. In 2016 alone, they provided more than 18,000 hours of respite care. The organization serves around 75 children each year.
