A giving community raises over $1.2 million to local non-profits
February 10, 2023, Colorado Springs, CO – The 2022 Give! Campaign has wrapped up and has raised over 1.2 million dollars for local area non-profits! The official wrap-up event for the 2022 Give! Campaign took place this past week with check presentations. Special Kids Special Families raised over 7,800 dollars to support their founding program, Zach’s Place. Zach’s Place at the Laurie Hillyard Family Center is one of only two licensed child care facilities in the state of Colorado that offers specialized child and respite care for youth with disabilities ages 2.5 – 18. They provide a break and support that parents need, while giving the child a chance for fun and challenging activities in a learning environment. The funds will help support lower income families afford care at the center. Because Zach’s Place offers a sliding scale fee schedule, many families only pay /hr when actual cost of care is around /hr. No family is ever turned away because of an inability to pay. Zach’s Place opened its doors in 1998 to provide families in the Colorado Springs area a safe place for parents to entrust their child(ren) with disabilities and their siblings in the care of trained staff without regard to race, religion, or ethnicity.
