SKSF receives $41k from The Independence Center fund to advance accessibility projects
March 19, 2025, Colorado Springs, CO – Special Kids Special Families (SKSF) is grateful to receive a grant from The Independence Center fund in the amount of $41,000! The funds will be used by SKSF to advance organizational accessibility projects. Through this fund, the IC has awarded $97,000 in grant funding to local organizations (TRE – The Resource Exchange, Griffith Centers, Pikes Peak Interagency Transition Team) dedicated to increasing accessibility and independence for individuals with disabilities in the Pikes Peak Region! SKSF Executive Director, Kevin Porter and Senior Director of Development & Communications, Derek Wilson accepted the grant at the IC award celebration on Wednesday, March 19th. SKSF is grateful to be included with other organizations that support a more inclusive and equitable community! SKSF is dedicated to working with people with disabilities, their families, and the community, in helping create independence so that all may thrive!
About Special Kids Special Families (SKSF): a non-profit umbrella organization with several unique programs designed to support people with disabilities of all ages from early childhood through senior adult as well as their families and caregivers. SKSF offers programs for individuals with disabilities including:
The Child and Family Services Program that encompasses Zach’s Place child & respite care center;
Adult Services offering day programs and Host Home opportunities for adults with disabilities; Child Placement Agency for foster and adoption placement for children with disabilities and special needs; and Behavioral Health Services offering counseling and specialized therapy to individuals ages 4 to adulthood.
